The guides are made by Athena Mellor, founder of Ramble Co. and an expert in U.K. outdoor travel. She has been travelling extensively around the U.K. for the past 6+ years curating these guides. Athena is a trainee Mountain Leader while her partner, Harvey, is a qualified Mountain Leader who also helps with the walking routes.
We’ve been building these guides for the last 6+ years and we truly believe they are a valuable source of information that is worth a small fee. Creating the guides involves extensive research, planning, travel, writing and photography. Yes, you could probably find some of this information elsewhere but you would have to use a whole lot of different websites and platforms to do so. Our guides take away all that hassle and give you everything in one place; we hope this becomes a source you trust.

Through extensive research and travel to the areas, through personal recommendations from local friends we really trust, and sometimes simply by stumbling across somewhere special and wanting to share it. We think we have a great eye for what makes a place really special; whether that be a unique atmosphere in a country pub or a hike that just has you smiling from ear-to-ear for the whole route.
We have visited 90% of the locations in the guides, and those we haven’t visited have been researched extensively to ensure they match our vibe and standards. However our walking routes have always been tried and tested by ourselves.
While we would love to have a book published to every single National Park and AONB around the U.K., the reality is that making a book takes a very long time. In the meantime, we wanted to be able to share all the amazing locations we have travelled to with you and so that’s where the guides come in.
Some of the locations in the Peak District and Lake District book are the same as in the online guides, while others are different. The books contain walking descriptions and hand-drawn maps, while the online guides have a link to OS Maps. The online guides are continuously updated as we discover new areas, while the book is a beautiful, treasured and timeless item that you can keep for years. One of them you can hold in your hands and the other you can keep in your pocket. Honestly, we’d recommend buying both but maybe we’re biased!
